Buell's demise was sudden and unexpected, but the manufacturer's death won't quite feel official until the remainder of Buell bikes are liquidated from dealerships. To help move their remainders, Harley-Davidson has launched a dedicated website that tracks inventory and helps locate bikes by location, with the caveat that "Inventory counts are updated regularly but may not be reflective of actual product availability."
The site is an efficient and numerically pragmatic, but ultimately serves as a grim footnote to the homegrown brand that couldn't quite gain enough commercial momentum to survive in an increasingly harsh business environment.
At the time of this blog post-- during the last few hours of 2009-- the site indicates "1243 Buells left in the USA." Let's hope 2010 holds brighter days for domestic bike builders, not to mention the motorcycle industry at large.
